Arab Contributions to America

Often times, we find ourselves thinking that people and places half-way around the world have little to do with our lives here in America. The fact is however, the vast contributions of Arab American Culture, the accomplishments of countless Arab American, and the effects of US policy touch our every day lives.

Consider the following: Numerous developments in the fields of mathematics, geometry, medicine and philosophy have origins in the Arab world. Watermelon, artichokes, rice and cotton are just a few of the any crops that Arabs introduced to the West. Arabic words or derivatives thereof every day: alcohol, coffee, sofa, algebra, sugar, zero and banana, for example. The performing and visual arts, government political policy, and too, we must not forget the American’s tie to oil from the Arab world.

And we must not forget the immigrants and their descendants who have become successful examples of the American dream.
